A picture of Museum visitors operating the crane. Make a splash in World Works Gallery.
World Works puts the tools for investigation and experimentation into children's hands. Children use a giant crane to move foam I–beams and turn a gooey mess into art in the Paper Factory.

A picture of Museum visitors racing boats down a water chute. In the Water Works area, visitors have fun exploring water by building boats and racing them down a water chute. Or, move ping–pong balls through a hydraulic maze and create the biggest bubbles possible. Our youngest visitors enjoy activities specifically designed to accommodate small hands and short legs.

In the Theater of Light, children and adults explore the properties of light by mixing different colors and making light “bounce.” Discover reflection and refraction by manipulating the colors of lights in the theater and casting multi–colored shadows on the wall and puppet stage.

When children are first learning to read they use a variety of problem–solving skills. The crane poses some problems for your child to solve. Comparing, observing and cooperative play all contribute to a child's early learning. Stop by the Machine Warehouse and encourage your child to figure out the best way to move packages using the conveyor belts and inclined planes. In the Water Works area, promote your child's observation skills by posing questions about the movement of the ping–pong balls.

Minnesota Children's Museum welcomes all visitors, and people with disabilities easily experience most areas of the Museum. Some areas may not look accessible at first glance, but can be enjoyed by all. In World Works, operate a crane! The crane on the mezzanine level is available by a lift. If you have questions or require assistance during your visit, please ask a Museum staff member wearing a purple vest.
