Fun challenges abound in the Habitot gallery

Small children meet big adventures in this gallery we created especially for the Museum’s youngest learners. Infants, toddlers and young preschoolers love to touch, reach, creep, crawl, cruise, and try all that is available in the pond, prairie, forest and caves of Habitot.

Amusement and wonder awaits around every corner as emerging large motor and language skills are championed and challenged by the peek-a-boo holes of the rolling prairie or whisking ride of the artic slide in the frozen tundra.

Playing in Habitot contributes to the development of essential lifelong skills such as:

  • Confidence when taking risks and trying things out for the first time like going into the cave by themselves.
  • Coordination when practicing and perfecting new large motor movements on the rope climb or wavy walk.
  • Communication when sharing excitement with others and hearing new words that build vocabulary and comprehension.
