For the 25-year artwork, Carlson created over a dozen designs specifically for Minnesota Children's Museum. A prevalent cupcake theme became the emblem of the Museum's 25-year celebration.
Carlson illustrated the inaugural poster for the Museum, which opened its doors December 12, 1981 on North First Street in Minneapolis. Like the Museum, Carlson was just beginning her career as a children's book author and illustrator, which now includes having published more than 50 books featuring characters such as Harriet, Loudmouth George, Louanne Pig and Henry. Carlson addresses many children's topics in her books, but according to Carlson, the common thread is to "help kids feel good about themselves."
In 1998, Carlson was honored by the Minnesota Children's Museum at their annual Gala and presented with the Museum's Great Friend To Kids Award. Nancy is a graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and is a recipient of the college's Alumni Achievement Award. Visit www.nancycarlson.com for more information on Nancy Carlson.
