ST. PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Children's Museum will host a giant birthday party, Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, from 10 a.m. to noon to mark the Museum's 25th anniversary. The celebration recognizes the Museum's positive educational on the lives of more than six million visitors and its commitment to nurturing learning through hands-on of play.

Minnesota Children's Museum invites visitors to join St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, Twin Cities author and illustrator Nancy Carlson, and the Minnesota Children's Museum three founders in marking this monumental occasion with learning and laughter.

"A museum like this changes the lives of our children," said Mayor Coleman. "Delivering on its mission to 'spark learning through play,' Minnesota Children's Museum serves the community by providing an experience that brings together adults and children to play and learn with and from one another."

Research has shown a correlation between early childhood development and play. At Minnesota Children's Museum, experiences are designed to foster hands-on interaction and use play as a medium for developmental and emotional learning.

"For many years, play has been taken for granted as something that just happens and something separate from learning," said Sarah Caruso, Museum president. "At the museum, we celebrate play every day. And on our anniversary, we are taking a moment to recognize and celebrate accomplishments and our future."

In addition to storytelling by Mayor Coleman and Nancy Carlson, partygoers are invited to help decorate a 3-foot-5-inch cupcake with sparkles, sprinkles and colorful confetti, shake out their sillies during Birthday Big Fun! and enjoy a traditional birthday cupcake.
