Special Exhibits
 En Mi Familia
 October 7, 2006 - January 1, 2007
 Step into this bilingual exhibit, based on the beautiful paintings and beloved family stories of Mexican-American author, Carmen Lomas Garza. Visit Garza's childhood bedroom, meet her family through albums and make a wish while gazing at the Texas stars from the fanciful dream chair. Enter a backyard scene that captures Garza's painting, Barbacoa para Cumpleaños (Birthday Barbecue), fill and spill the piñata and complete a puzzle that explores the celebratory banners of papel picado (paper cutouts). At Tamalada (Making Tamales), children can gather with their families in the kitchen, like Garza did, and practice making tamales with fabric replicas. At Baile en el Jardín (Dance at the Garden), children can make music and dance to conjunto music.

Snow Ball! Winter Fun
 November 24, 2006 - February 4, 2007
 Snow Ball! Winter Fun has winter-themed activities for everyone, including a "ski path" and life-sized snow globes. Visitors can stop by "Ole & Lena's" ice fishing house and catch "the big one" while cozying up to the woodstove with a good book. In the warming house, children can don winter sports gear, such as snowshoes and hockey pads. Kids can try their hand at building a snow palace with giant building blocks, or tossing "snowballs" into tree holes. Children can create beautiful winter scenes by tracing a partial drawing and using their imagination to complete the scene. There's also a toddler play rink with fun activities to entertain our youngest visitors. Come experience the wonder and magic of winter!

 Minnesota Children's Museum Celebrates 25 Years of Fun!
Minnesota Children's Museum celebrates 25 years of Play is Important Work! Join us Tuesday, December 12, for a fun-filled celebration. Come help decorate Minnesota Children's Museum Great BIG Birthday Cupcake and enjoy a delicious birthday cupcake. Receive a birthday prize (while supplies last), meet Nancy Carlson, author and illustrator, for Birthday Story Time, and shake out your sillies during Birthday Big Fun!

Birthday celebration activities include:

  • Decorate the Museum's Great BIG Birthday Cupcake - 10 a.m.
     Join the fun decorating the cupcake with sparkles, sprinkles and colorful confetti.

  • Nancy Carlson's Birthday Story Time - 10:30 a.m.
    Delight in a birthday story extravaganza as Nancy Carlson, author and illustrator, shares her favorite characters and stories.

  • Recognition of Founders - 11 a.m.
    Museum President Sarah Caruso and special guests thank the Museum founders.

  • Birthday Cupcakes - 11:15 a.m.
    What would a birthday party be without cake? Join us for a delicious "bite-size" cupcake.

  • Birthday Big Fun! - 11:30 a.m.
    Shake out your celebratory sillies during a special Birthday Big Fun! Join Curious George and friends for the kazoo birthday parade.

    Habitot® New Year's Eve
    Sunday, December 31, 6 - 8:30 p.m.
    Groove your way into 2007 at the Habitot® New Year's Eve Early Countdown! Join Will Hale and the TadPole Parade for a jam session, make your own musical instrument at our creation station, play air guitar, dance at our pint-sized disco and much more! Join us for a rockin' good time!

    Prepaid reservations are recommended; space is limited. Cost: $6 per member, $10 per non-member if paid by December 22. After December 22 and at the door prices are $8 per member and $12 per non-member. Children younger than one year are free. Call 651-225-6035 for reservations.
