Free Sunday FAQs

What is Target Free 3rd Sunday?
On the third Sunday of each month, admission to the Museum is FREE for everyone, thanks to generous sponsorship by Target.

Why are you limiting the number of people admitted?
Due to the popularity of the Target Free 3rd Sunday program, these days can be very crowded. To ensure that everyone has a great experience, we have decided to limit the number of people in the building at these times.

How will people be admitted?
We have a set number of people that will be allowed in each hour. People will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no pre-registration for admission. The line starts in the skyway, and visitors entering the Museum on 7th street will need to go upstairs to get in line.

How long will the wait be?
At times the wait in line will be just a few minutes. During bad weather it is always busier at the museum, and on those days wait times could be much longer. On average, visitors coming to the museum on Target Free 3rd Sundays in January – March should plan to wait in line for 10-20 minutes.

Do I have to wait in line if I am a member?
Yes, everyone has to wait in line so we can control how many people are in the building. Since members enjoy unlimited admission to the museum, we recommend you visit on another day when it won’t be so busy.

Is there anything special I need to bring?
Just bring yourselves! As always on busy days, we ask that people leave strollers and coats in the car if possible, to help reduce crowding.

Are there any other options for coming to the Museum for a reduced rate?
Memberships are a great option. Family memberships start at $129 and include admission for the whole family for one year. Check out the membership page for more information. Play for All memberships are free for those who qualify. Check out the Play for All membership page to see if you qualify.
