Wise About Waste
Wise About Waste is a curriculum based on a two-week school residency partnership developed by Minnesota Children’s Museum and Glacier Hills Elementary School of Arts and Science (Eagan, MN). The residency, an example of a schools and museums working together to enrich science experiences for children, took place during February 2009 and was an interdisciplinary science project using recycled and reused materials.
Learn more about the Wise About Waste project:
- Students were able to see the relationships between aspects of environmental stewardship, which aided in the retention and application of knowledge.
- Lessons met student needs, interests and learning styles through a variety of activities, from using mechanical skills, to connecting an electrical circuit, to using creative skills to construct a robot.
- The success of the Wise About Waste project was due in part to the collaboration between two educational institutions: the school with its formal science instruction, and the Museum with its informal science education.
- Educators, families and students benefited from the increased resources, innovative teaching techniques, and community involvement.
