Chaperone and Visitor Tips
The Museum has seven galleries filled with hands–on exhibits designed for children ages six months to 10 years, but everyone can play—even adults! This guide will help make the most of your visit so you and your group can PLAY TO LEARN and LEARN TO PLAY!

How do I keep the children safe?
• There is only one entrance and exit to each gallery so that supervising your group will be easier.
• Museum staff in purple vests and aprons can quickly radio for help if a child gets separated from your group.

How can I prepare for this trip?
• This is a hands–on museum so children are encouraged to touch the exhibits.
• Know the activities for the day. For a complete listing of upcoming activities, go to the Museum's Calendar.
• Use the Museum map, written guides, program boards and Museum signs to help your group naviagate the Museum.

What rules should I explain to my group before our exploration begins?
• Please walk at all times.
• Stay with your adult leader.
• Share and take turns in the exhibits.
• Put things away after you play with them.
• If children need help, they should look for a Museum staff person in a purple vest or apron.
• Have fun!

How can I help the children learn during our visit?
• Be enthusiastic and curious about learning together in the exhibits.
• Help children work together to make choices about what exhibits to visit. You may not have time to visit everything.
• Encourage children to talk about what they are doing.
• Ask questions that help children focus their attention, measure and count, compare or solve problems. Begin questions with words such as “Why,” “How,” “What” and “If.”

Look for staff in purple vests or aprons and the volunteers in red vests. They’re happy to assist and answer questions.
